Kalam Di Goonj is a place to read, and reading should be straightforward for everyone. The site has been designed from the outset so that readers with different sight, dexterity, and needs can use it comfortably.

1. What is built in

These are settled properties of the design, verified in our own testing:

• Measured contrast. The contrast between text and background has been measured and set so that text reads clearly in day mode and in the lamplit night. Gold is never used for small text, only for underlines, marks, and large characters.
• Visible focus. Keyboard navigation shows a clear blue outline around each button and link, so your position is always evident.
• Reduced motion respected. Where your device is set to reduced motion, the site’s animations do not run and content simply appears.
• Structured layout. Pages use proper headings and landmarks, and every page begins with a skip-to-content link, so screen-reader and keyboard readers reach the writing directly.
• Large touch targets. Buttons and touch areas are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
• Clear forms. Every field carries a visible label. Errors appear next to the field in plain words rather than by colour alone, and are announced to screen readers.
• Bilingual markup. Punjabi and English are each marked with the correct language attribute, so a screen reader renders each in the right voice.
• A listening form. Many pieces carry narration, so readers who find Gurmukhi difficult to read can follow the writing by ear.

2. Where work remains

We do not claim the work is complete:

• A full audit is pending. Our design principles follow WCAG, but until an independent, full accessibility audit is complete we claim no formal conformance level.
• Transcripts do not yet accompany every narrated piece. The proportion that carry one increases at each review of this page, and our target is a transcript with every audio piece as standard.
• Screen-reader testing across both Gurmukhi and English is still in progress.

3. How we keep this page accurate

We review this statement at least every six months. Each review tests the claims above against the built product, records progress on transcripts and screen-reader testing, and updates the effective date. When the independent accessibility audit is complete we will publish its findings, including the deficiencies it identifies, and only then consider a formal WCAG conformance statement.

4. Reporting a barrier

If any part of the site is difficult to use, or you encounter a barrier, write to [email protected]. Tell us which page and what the difficulty was. We read every accessibility message, and barriers that block reading or account access are treated as high-priority fixes.

5. Limits of this page

This page describes design decisions verified in our own testing. It is not a certification. Until the independent audit is complete we make no formal WCAG conformance claim.
