Effective — to supply —
Kalam Di Goonj verifies before publishing and holds itself to accuracy, fairness, and context. Where we get something wrong, we correct the record in the open. This page states how. “We” means Northview Productions Inc., doing business as Kalam Di Goonj.
1. Terms we use
Different failures require different remedies. We use these terms consistently:
- Correction: we published a material error of fact, such as a wrong name, date, figure, quotation, attribution, or event. We fix the text and attach a visible correction note.
- Clarification: what we published was accurate but ambiguous, incomplete, or open to a reading we did not intend. We sharpen the wording and attach a clarification note.
- Update: the story developed after publication, through new events, new findings, or a response received later. The piece is extended or annotated, and an update note records when and why. An update is not an admission of error.
- Editor’s note: context or transparency the reader is entitled to, such as a conflict disclosed late, a sourcing caveat, or background on why a piece was published or framed as it was.
- Retraction: the piece has failed fundamentally, through fabrication, plagiarism, collapse of its factual basis, or sourcing we can no longer stand behind, such that correcting individual sentences cannot save it. We withdraw the piece in its entirety.
- Removal: the exceptional step of taking published material offline. Our default is that the archive remains intact; the criteria are in section 5.
Typographical errors, broken links, and formatting faults that do not change meaning are fixed without a note. Anything that changes what a reasonable reader would take from the piece receives one.
2. How to report an error
Write to [email protected] with “Correction” in the subject line, or use the “complain about this article” link in any article footer. Include:
- the article’s URL or title;
- the passage you believe is wrong;
- what you believe is correct, and the supporting evidence: a document, a record, a first-hand account, or a citation;
- your contact details, so that we can follow up. We do not publish them.
Anyone may report an error, including subjects of coverage, sources, readers, and contributors.
3. What we do when you report one
- We assess promptly. Error reports go to the editorial team and are reviewed under our internal procedures. Reports alleging harm to a person are prioritized.
- We verify. We re-check the claim against sources and evidence. Being challenged is not being wrong; where we conclude the piece stands, we tell you so and give our reasons.
- We correct visibly. Where the report is well-founded we fix the piece and attach a note stating what was wrong, what it now says, and the date of the change. Correction notes are placed where readers will see them.
- We answer you. We acknowledge error reports within five business days and tell you the outcome. If you are dissatisfied, escalate through our Complaints, Appeals & Right of Reply process.
4. No silent edits
We do not silently change material content after publication. Every correction, clarification, update, retraction, and removal is disclosed by a note, and we preserve version history internally so that the record of what changed, and when, exists and can be examined. The typographical exemption in section 1 is the only exception, and it never extends to changes of meaning, names, figures, or allegations.
5. The archive stays, with narrow exceptions
Journalism and literature constitute a record, and a record that can be quietly rewritten or withdrawn is worth less. Our default is that published work remains published and is corrected rather than erased. We remove or de-index published material only where:
- the law requires it, through a court order or a legal obligation we are advised binds us;
- serious harm outweighs the public interest, where continued availability exposes a person to a risk of serious harm, whether to safety, through exploitation, or by grave privacy injury, that clearly outweighs the public interest in the piece remaining; or
- consent has been withdrawn by a vulnerable subject, where material involving minors or vulnerable people was published with consent later withdrawn in circumstances that make honouring the withdrawal the right course.
Removal requests are assessed under our internal removal and archival-integrity procedure, decided by the Editor-in-Chief, and logged. Where material is removed, we leave a notice at the URL stating that removal occurred and, where we safely can, the reason. Embarrassment, a changed view of lawful coverage, and reputational preference do not meet this threshold.
6. Retractions remain visible
A retracted piece is not deleted. We replace it with a retraction notice at the same URL, stating that the piece was retracted, when, and on what ground, so that citations and links resolve to an accurate account rather than a dead end. Where feasible and appropriate, the retracted text remains accessible behind the notice for the record.
7. Corrections propagate to every rendition
A piece may exist in several forms: the Gurmukhi original, an English rendition, a future Shahmukhi rendition, narration or audio, newsletters, and PDF or printable editions. When we correct, clarify, update, or retract, the change and its note propagate to all renditions. Audio is re-recorded or annotated with a correction notice. PDFs are regenerated or flagged. Newsletters already sent cannot be recalled, so significant corrections to newsletter content are noted in a subsequent edition. The canonical corrected version is always the one on kalamdigoonj.com.
8. If you are the person affected
If an error concerns you personally, whether your name, your words, or your conduct, say so in your report. These are prioritized, and correcting the record about a person is treated with particular urgency. You may also have a statutory right to ask us to correct personal information we hold about you, under our Privacy Policy. Where your concern is fairness or the opportunity to respond rather than accuracy, our Complaints, Appeals & Right of Reply page is the appropriate channel.
9. Limits of this page
- An update or editor’s note is not an admission that anything was wrong.
- This page creates no right to have lawful, accurate coverage removed. The criteria in section 5 are deliberately narrow.
- Our assessment of an error report is an editorial judgement made in good faith. Disagreement with our conclusion does not itself establish that the piece is wrong. This page is neither a contract nor legal advice.
