Effective — to supply —
1. Our marks
Northview Productions Inc., a British Columbia company doing business as Kalam Di Goonj (“the Company”, “we”), uses these marks for the Publication:
- the word mark “Kalam Di Goonj”;
- the Gurmukhi mark ਕਲਮ ਦੀ ਗੂੰਜ;
- the Kalam Di Goonj logo, being the visual mark as published on the site.
These marks are currently used as unregistered trademarks; mark them ™ rather than ®. Applications to register with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office are planned, and this page will be updated when registrations issue. Unregistered status does not change the requirements below: our rights in the name arise from use and reputation as well as from registration.
2. What you may do without asking
No permission is needed to:
- refer to us by name (nominative use), for example “as reported in Kalam Di Goonj” or “ਕਲਮ ਦੀ ਗੂੰਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਛਪੀ ਲਿਖਤ”, in articles, reviews, academic work, social posts, and bibliographies;
- link to kalamdigoonj.com from any site, without asking and without conditions from us;
- mention us accurately in press coverage, including using the name in headlines about us;
- quote short passages of our published work with attribution, within fair dealing and the quotation guidance in our Copyright & Rights page.
Accuracy is the only condition: state true things about who we are and what we published.
3. What requires our written permission
Ask first, at [email protected], before:
- using the logo anywhere, including in press coverage layouts, applications, or event materials;
- co-branding, meaning placing our marks beside yours on events, publications, or campaigns;
- merchandise, meaning the marks on clothing, prints, stationery, or anything sold or given away;
- domain names, subdomains, social-media handles, and channel or group names containing or imitating the marks, in Latin or Gurmukhi script, or in transliterations such as “kalamdigoonj” or “kalam-di-gunj”;
- anything that could imply that we endorse, sponsor, or are affiliated with a product, service, cause, party, or event. The Publication is independent and non-partisan, and our name on another party’s banner implies otherwise.
We answer these requests, and small community uses in good faith are usually granted.
4. What is never permitted
- Altering the marks, including recolouring, distorting, animating, cropping, or rebuilding the logo, and respelling the name.
- Confusingly similar marks, meaning names, logos, or handles that a reader could mistake for ours, for any publication, product, or account.
- Disparaging or misleading use, meaning the marks in contexts that deceive readers or that associate us with hate, fraud, or partisan campaigning. Criticism of us, clearly speaking about us, is not use of our marks and requires no permission.
5. Rendering the name
The Gurmukhi mark is the name, not decoration. When you write it:
- render it in real Unicode Gurmukhi text, ਕਲਮ ਦੀ ਗੂੰਜ, rather than as an image, wherever text is possible;
- check that software does not mangle the script. Broken conjuncts, tofu boxes, a dropped bindī or ṭippī (ਗੂੰਜ must keep its ੂ and ੰ), and fonts that corrupt matra placement all misspell our name;
- do not mix scripts within the mark, and do not substitute Devanagari or Shahmukhi renderings for the mark itself. Describing the name in another script in running prose is fine.
- in Latin script the name is “Kalam Di Goonj”: three words, capitalized as shown.
Attribution formats. In text: “Kalam Di Goonj (ਕਲਮ ਦੀ ਗੂੰਜ), kalamdigoonj.com”. Short form after first mention: “Kalam Di Goonj” or “ਕਲਮ ਦੀ ਗੂੰਜ”. For quoted work: the author’s name first, then “in Kalam Di Goonj, <date>, <URL>”.
6. Why we enforce this
The name carries our readers’ trust. Readers who see ਕਲਮ ਦੀ ਗੂੰਜ should be certain they are receiving the independent publication they know, rather than an imitation, a fraudulent newsletter, or a campaign. We protect the marks to protect that trust, and we act on impersonation, confusing use, and misleading affiliation claims. Enforcement begins with a written request to stop.
7. Limits of this page
Trademark is not copyright. Permission to mention the name is not permission to republish our content, which our Copyright & Rights page governs, and quoting our work does not license the logo. Nothing here restricts honest journalism, criticism, or comparison that refers to us by name.
8. Contact
Brand and press: [email protected]. Suspected impersonation of the Publication: the same address, marked “impersonation”. We treat those as urgent.
